REVIEW: V-BEAM LASER @ THE CLIFFORD CLINIC

We’re counting down to the end of 2016 – hope you’ve started making plans with your family and friends to ring in the new year!

I’ve been buried with work and minor wedding preparations for the past months – I guess u could say I’m a bridezilla? (: Thank God it’s an intimate wedding dinner for 120 pax. No idea how other brides did it with such fervor, from their engagement down to the day itself. :O

Coupled with this stress, my lack of sleep (recently realized I have major dark eye circles issue) & poor food habits are causing me to worry and be concerned about having clear and glowing skin.

For brides-to-be, the last thing we all want is to get last-minute acne outbreak or bad skin conditions leading up to our big day. So, there’s really nothing that’s keeping us from looking our best on one of the most important days in our lives – I’m not an exception! And I really do want to banish my worries of acne, with a slight issue of rosacea and visible blood vessels around my cheek and nose regions. And so I went to get a little help from my trusted clinic – The Clifford Clinic.

I’ve been seeing Dr.Ee for the past 1.5 years, and every time I do share additional skin concerns with him, he’ll listen patiently and tailor suitable treatments for my skin condition. As such, on top of my regular Q-switch laser sessions (which I’ve shared in my previous posts – Q-switch post 1 and Q-switch post 2), Dr. Ee proposed that V-beam laser will be a great complement to Q-switch. Can you imagine I was literally overjoyed to hear that my skin concerns can be treated with this treatment?? :DDDD

So here’s my understanding of V-beam laser.

What is V-beam?

V-beam is a pulsed dye laser, a non-invasive treatment which has a unique ability to selectively target fine blood vessels (around the nose and even leg thread veins), remove skin discolourations such as pink moles (cherry harmangioma), and treat acne lesions, scars, rosacea, fine lines, wrinkles, and even melasma.

At the clinic, Dr. Ee uses the Vbeam Perfecta machine to perform V-beam treatment on his patients. To my knowledge, Vbeam Perfecta is the gold standard and the world's best-selling pulsed-dye laser current available in the industry, and it's less painful than other vascular laser systems. And this is due to Candela's exclusive technology known as Dynamic Cooling Device, which sprays a liquid onto the skin before each laser pulse to cool the upper skin layers, thus making V-beam laser treatment safe and comfortable.

As each of Dr. Ee’s patients’ skin types is unique, he adjusted the setting (amount of air and the duration of air to be fired with each laser pulse) on the machine to maximize the results for my skin condition.

Each pulse felt a little like an elastic band snapping on my skin.

And I heard a beeping sound with each pulse throughout the treatment.

I looked hideous!!! Had no idea what I was laughing at...

I think the entire treatment took about 20 minutes – which was relatively fast.

Pain level?
On a scale of 1-10, I’d rate it a 3. The treatment was well-tolerated without any anesthesia. The short pulses felt like a combination of hot and cold snaps on my skin. As shared above, I think that the cryogenic air spray which is attached to V-beam to shoot cold air each time the laser is fired really helped in minimizing the discomfort for me during the session.

Any side effects?

As you can see in my photos above, the treated area looked red for a few hours (note that my skin is super sensitive, hence the major redness). Aside from the redness, I didn't experience other side effects or downtime. Oh, probably lesser sleep for the night? Since my face felt a little warmer than usual.

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of my own skin condition one week later.
Even without makeup, I see a noticeable improvement in my skin tone clarity and a reduction in redness.

I also feel more confident to head out with light makeup. I’d say V-beam laser is exceptionally great for people suffering from rosacea or facial flushing!

So if you’re an acne sufferer, someone with rosacea or facial flushing, or simply is a bride-to-be looking for that one treatment to add some clarity and glow to your skin, do consider V-beam laser.

I know there are a few other clinics that are offering similar V-beam treatments. Sharing from my experience as a patient of The Clifford Clinic (with severe acne history), I really believe that aside from the exclusive V-beam laser technology and machine used by them, what sets them apart is the skillfulness and experience of the doctors - Dr. Ee and Dr. Chow.
